🍁 Fall Is Here and Mizzen is Growing Gardeners!
It’s the first day of fall. The air is cooler, the light is softer, and somewhere a kid is pulling on gloves for the first time to help clear out the summer beds, thanks to an educator who made the time for it.
That’s why Farm to Table Kids, Coast of Maine, and Mizzen are teaming up this season to bring you the Gardening with Kids Hub—free lessons from Farm to Table Kids, seasonal playlists, and gardening tips, all in one place.
And to celebrate you, we’re giving away garden goodies all season long to help you and your program thrive.

Some dahlias bloom dinner-plate big, their petals stacked like something out of a fireworks show. Others stay small as a hacky sack, but every bit as fierce in color. Before your students meet them, “Things to Know Before You Grow” (grades 3–8) covers the fundamentals every gardener needs: reading a hardiness zone map, understanding frost dates, and calculating a seed-starting schedule, with worksheets, slides, and how-to videos straight from Farmer Steph.
Then continue the journey with “How to Grow Dahlias” (grades 3–8), five hands-on lessons that follow a dahlia’s full life cycle, from inspecting tubers in spring to cutting back, dividing, and overwintering the tubers each fall, with facilitator tips like “What ‘Cut & Come Again’ Means in Floriculture” and “How to Pack-Up & Store Dahlia Tubers Over Winter.”
