conversations centered on leadership development, staff supervision, social-emotional learning

The day before the NJSACC Annual Conference began, site coordinators and youth development leaders from across New Jersey gathered for the 21st CCLC Site Coordinator Summit, a focused event created exclusively for current 21st Century Community Learning Centers grantees. The Summit offered a meaningful opportunity to step away from daily program demands and spend time connecting with peers who understand the unique challenges and rewards of leading high-quality out-of-school time programs.

Throughout the day, participants engaged in conversations centered on leadership development, staff supervision, social-emotional learning, program improvement, and innovative approaches to youth engagement. Sessions were designed to provide practical tools and strategies that site coordinators could immediately bring back to their programs, while also creating space for honest discussion, collaboration, and shared problem-solving. Topics explored reflected the evolving responsibilities of OST leadership and the growing need for adaptable, forward-thinking practices in the field.

What made the Summit especially impactful was the sense of community in the room. Coordinators exchanged ideas, reflected on challenges, and celebrated the work happening across New Jersey’s 21st CCLC programs. The day served as a reminder that strong leadership is built through connection, continuous learning, and a shared commitment to supporting youth beyond the school day. As participants transitioned into the larger conference experience, the Summit helped set the tone for collaboration, inspiration, and continued growth across the OST field.
