Service Area Director
Did you attend an afterschool program in your youth? Tell us what you did after school usually.
- I did not attend an afterschool program when I was a child but I did feel it was beneficial to be outside and doing activities with my friends when I was not doing homework.
When did you become an NJSACC board member?
- 07/20/2000
How were you introduced to NJSACC?
- I was introduced to NJSACC through my supervisor at the time. I attended a conference and met Diane the former Executive Director and I fell in love with the field and all that it provided to students in the out of school time realm.
In your view, why is afterschool important?
- Afterschool is crucial for children to have a safe place where they can gain social and life skills and learn how to work together with their peers. Children today are so busy with outside activities, in addition to the increased pressure of social media use. Afterschool gives them that outlet where they can learn how to think critically, communicate with others including their peers and adults, explore things they may not have an opportunity to do, and gain important life lessons that will shape them as a productive and well-rounded adult.
In your view, why is NJSACC important?
- NJSACC can be the catalyst to drive home the importance of the afterschool field to funders, stakeholders, and government officials. NJSACC supports the workforce through education, training, resources, grant initiatives, and accountability on providing quality services that meet measured and high standards. Networks such as NJSACC can be the voice for providers who continue to struggle to be valued the same as school district and higher education employees.
