ESSER Commitment Deadline Approaching: An Opportunity for Afterschool/OST Programs

Afterschool, OST, and summer programs have been essential in addressing ongoing post-COVID academic and emotional recovery, thanks in part to important federal funding that encouraged partnerships between providers and school districts.

However, this program—the ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding—is winding down. Districts must commit their funds by having contracts in place with providers by September 2024 and the funds must be spent by January 2025. Any unused money will revert back to the U.S. Department of Education.

NJSACC has a free, downloadable toolkit with all of the information needed to help school leaders partner with quality afterschool providers to create afterschool, out-of-school time, and summer programs with ESSER funds.
