NJSACC: New Jersey’s Afterschool and Out-of-School Time (OST) Professional Network has been very busy preparing a full menu of professional development opportunities and best of all, all of these wonderful workshops highlight various aspects of behavior, inclusion, and social emotional learning (SEL) during Out-of-School Time (OST).

SOLD OUT! Youth Mental Health First Aid Training – Identity.  Understand.  Respond.

Geared towards adults who work with youth ages 12-18, this skills-based training course focuses on how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges they may see in the youth in their care.  The training will teach you how to apply the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Action Plan. Course components include:  full participation in both virtual sessions with camera on and two (2) hours of pre-work which will lead to certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid by Mental Health First Aid USA (from National Council for Mental Wellbeing).

  • Dates: Tuesday, February 27, 2024 and Thursday, February 29, 2024

Children use behavior. Providers are challenged by behavior. This training will introduce the KIT Behavior Thermometer to help participants distinguish between typical, challenging, concerning, and unsafe behavior. Then participants will learn thirteen steps they can use to de-escalate a variety of situations. This workshop is appropriate for all staff.

This training explains how to use the pyramid support model to develop realistic and individualized supports for youth in school-age programs. In this module, participants will explore four common lenses used to view and think about behavior, focusing on how to view behavior as communication and accurately interpret the messages children and youth send with their behavior. This is appropriate for all staff.
