
NJSACC's Fall Behavior, Inclusion, & Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Workshops
NJSACC: New Jersey’s Afterschool and Out-of-School Time (OST) Professional Network has been very busy preparing a full menu of professional development opportunities for the fall. We encourage you to take a look at each of the following offerings and then register to join us using the links provided below:
With their innovative, mindful approach, kid-grit’s professional development builds confidence and character, strengthens resilience and social-emotional learning, and promotes self-care and wellness in both staff and the youth in their care. In this powerful and interactive social emotional learning (SEL) session, experience firsthand how kid-grit’s Holistic Wellness Wheel (HWW) builds community through goal setting and deep reflection with both staff and youth of various ages. Create and use your own HWW tools to support participants in growing self-awareness, responsible decision-making, self-management, digital and social media consciousness, social and cultural awareness, and more. This workshop is most appropriate for leadership staff.

“How do I manage kids?” Do you wonder where to begin or want to strengthen your skills in building positive relationships with youth? In this hands on workshop presented by kid-grit the SEL experts, learn 6 simple strategies for developing strong relationships with youth, leading by example, and inspiring the youth in your care. This workshop is appropriate for all levels of staff.

This workshop will focus on enhancing supervisory staff’s skills in supporting staff, as well as improving overall disability inclusion and behavior support practices in the school age program. Supervisors will explore the Individual Practice Development (IPD) theory to determine staff’s current level of understanding and skill regarding inclusion practices and will use the KIT Coaching Pyramid to help staff to develop a plan of action and inclusion supports for the school age youth in their care. This is most appropriate for leadership staff.

There are many ways to look at behavior. In this module, participants will explore four common lenses used to view and think about behavior, focusing on how to view behavior as communication and accurately interpret the messages children and youth send with their behavior. This is appropriate for all staff.

In this virtual workshop, participants learn strategies towards communicating with care and strength in order to build relationships for more impactful delivery of instruction and activities. Explore how to create safe spaces, build rapport, establish trust, and use positive behavioral strategies with 9 intentional new ideas and methods. This workshop is most appropriate for leadership staff.

Including children with disabilities in school age programs can be very challenging, but nothing is more rewarding than witnessing a child make a friend, enjoy a game, or experience an accomplishment. This training is designed to help staff explore thoughts and feelings about disability inclusion, understand socially responsible language, and make a plan to overcome inclusion barriers in their program. This is appropriate for all staff.

This module introduces participants to the strength-based approach and how it helps shift perspectives to understand children and youth’s intentions and needs. When we understand what children and youth’s behavior is communicating, it is easier to determine supports that will help them be successful. This is appropriate for all staff.
