Many school leaders across the nation are looking to summer as a time to help kids recover, rebound, and accelerate learning. Use our new guide, A Summer for Learning & Recovery, to educate school leaders on the outcomes and elements of a quality program. The American Rescue Plan provides funds to state and local education agencies to support learning recovery, and names afterschool and summer enrichment programs as strategies that can be supported. In fact, state education agencies are required to spend funds on afterschool and summer, and both local and state education agencies have significant resources to spend on strategies to support learning recovery that go beyond the school day.
Among the education funding in the American Rescue Plan are:
- $8.45B available from SEAs, including:
- $1.22B set-aside for summer enrichment
- $1.22B set-aside for afterschool programs
- 5%, approximately, $6.1B, for learning recovery, which can include afterschool/summer/ELT
- $22B provided to LEAs for learning recovery strategies, including afterschool and summer enrichment
