Recent media stories suggest a troubling trend with American youth – bullying, violence, aggression, flagrant disregard for other people. But do these media stories paint the whole picture? Are today’s youth spiraling out of control? Are they worse than the generations that came before them? The research might surprise you.
Join the Girl Scouts Research Institute and the National Collaboration for Youth for a webinar that will explore these pressing questions with research findings from Good Intentions: The Beliefs and Values of Teens and Tweens Today (2009), a national study conducted by the Girl Scout Research Institute (GSRI) in partnership with Harris Interactive that will be released on December 2nd.
The study explores what youth today value and how they go about making decisions, based on research conducted with 3,263 3rd- to 12th-graders from around the country. This work builds on a study published in 1989 by GSUSA and paints an encouraging picture about a generation of youth responsible to themselves and to others, and who value diversity, acceptance, and community involvement. It also highlights the important role that adults play in helping girls actualize their good intentions. This webinar would be of interest to anyone who works with kids – teachers, administrators, volunteers, policymakers, non-profit organizations, and others. Please feel free to pass this invitation on to other organizations that may be interested.
