1st Annual Public Service Photography Contest

From the Alliance 4 Public Service

In celebration of Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) 2010, the Alliance 4 Public Service from Rutgers-Newark School of Public Affairs and Administration is sponsoring a public service photo contest. We are seeking photo submissions of public service activities and public servants: fundraising, environmental clean-up, building new homes, community events, and government workers like teachers, emergency services, health inspectors etc.

We hope to see interesting and creative snapshots of public service in action. Winning submissions will be displayed at the School of Public Affairs and Administration building, on the web during PSRW, and in Civic Engagement magazine.

Criteria

Submit digital photos of public service in either black and white or color. Photos sent should be in JPEG form or TIFF form and at least 300 dpi

Judging and Prizes

Judging is based on how well the photo portrays public service in a visually interesting way. Photos should be creative and compelling. All winners will be featured in Civic Engagement magazine.

Prizes will be awarded in the following photo categories:

Public Servant at Work
Volunteering

Fundraising

Service Project

Submission

A maximum of 3 photos may be submitted. The deadline is Friday, April 23rd.

The Save the Redwoods League is sponsoring a national art contest for children and youth in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Entrants must create a postcard that illustrates what inspires them about redwood forests on one side and include on the other side a short note to President Obama
about why he should care about redwoods.

Save the Redwoods League is the only nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting ancient redwood forests throughout their natural range.

Jennifer Benito, the League’s outreach director, said the contest “combines creative writing, civic participation, art and science.”

Postcard submissions will be accepted in three age groups:

*5-9
*10-13
*14-18

The entry deadline is April 30.
