Project Learning Tree-Corrected Link To Register!

Project Learning Tree is an exciting environmental education program for afterschool  professionals  and educators to use with students grades PreK-8.
The Project Learning Tree program uses hands-on, interactive lessons that encourage students to explore their local environments while using real-world skills such as cooperative learning and decision-making.

During a Project Learning Tree workshop, educators gain experience with fun activities while working with resource professionals and other educators.  Each workshop participant receives the Project Learning Tree PreK-8 Activity Guide, along with additional resources to use indoors and outside.
Lessons focus on trees, habitats, water, soil, energy, conservation and stewardship to help students gain an appreciation for the world around them.

Presented in partnership with NJSACC :  The Network for NJ’s Afterschool  Communities and Project Learning Tree NJ

When: Friday , July 24th, 2009
9 am-12 noon

Where: First Baptist Church of Westfield

GOT SCIENCE? STARTING AT THE STEM

Where do scientists come from? The butterfly garden, bubble glop, and
after-school thrills and discovery.

The good news is that nearly nine out of 10 after-school programs are
trying to get kids more involved in science and technology. They’re
infusing so-called STEM projects (science, technology, engineering and
math) into their programs. But too few leaders know about the growing
universe of available resources: enticing curriculum, opportunities to
train staff, tools to test their progress.

Access to high-quality after-school science curriculum and staff
training has yet to catch up to interest.

But that’s changing. At an elementary school in Harlem, kids are
learning about volume, cohesion and air tension from blowing bubbles
bigger than their heads. And where there was once a patch of weeds, kids
seized with a passion for conservation have become urban planters. Learn

Do you have a child without health insurance?
If you checked a box on this year’s state tax return indicating you have a child who is uninsured, you will be receiving in the mail an application for free or low-cost health insurance from NJ FamilyCare.

The application will come in a yellow envelope marked, NJ FamilyCare Express Lane Application for Health Insurance is enclosed.
Please open it, fill it out and return it as soon as possible.

You work hard to keep your children safe, healthy and happy!
Take advantage of this opportunity so your kids can get the checkups they need to stay healthy and see
the doctor when they’re sick or injured.

Your privacy is assured.
Information provided to NJ FamilyCare is used only to enroll children for health insurance.
