NJSACC: The Network  for NJ’s Afterschool Communities

Washington, DC, November 6, 2009 -
NAA President and CEO Judy Nee announced her resignation today as head of the national organization, effective December 31, 2009. Ms. Nee assumed her leadership role at NAA on October 1, 2006, after serving as the organization’s Board President.  During her tenure, Ms. Nee oversaw a number of significant accomplishments including:

·    Development of a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan
·    Establishment of NAA’s current headquarters in Washington, DC
·    Transition of the NAA Accreditation System to the Council on Accreditation
·    Significant expansion of the nation’s only convention for the afterschool field
·    Development of a Code of Ethics for the afterschool profession
·    Development of a Trainer Quality Assurance system for the afterschool field
·    Creation of a state of the art online membership community and website
·    Development of an innovative partnership with the National Association for Elementary School Principals

In a letter of resignation submitted to NAA’s Board of Directors, Ms. Nee stated, “The experience of serving as President and CEO for NAA has been the highlight of my career. I can’t think of any other organization that has a deeper history of supporting afterschool professionals and programs.”

NAA Board Chair, Dr. Adrian K. Haugabrook responded, “On behalf of the Board of Directors and NAA’s members, I want to express our deep gratitude for Judy’s service as President and CEO over the past three years. NAA is a stronger organization as a result of her leadership, focus on the organization’s 5 year strategic plan, and her passion for providing quality afterschool experiences for all children and youth.”

The NAA Board has appointed Dr. Paul Young to serve as Interim President and CEO to continue the strategic focus of the organization and assure a smooth transition. Dr. Young has a background as an elementary school principal, President of the Board of Directors of the National Association for Elementary School Principals, and most recently as the Director of four 21st Century Community Learning Centers programs in Ohio. Dr. Young will begin his appointment on January 1, 2010 and will serve in that role until the NAA Board determines the process and timeline for conducting a national search.

Judy Nee will remain on the Board of Directors of NAA, and will continue her work on afterschool leadership and professional development in Florida and nationally.
