Are you a small business owner, a non-profit organization, or afterschool care professional? Come and join us for this very special workshop and learn the essentials to social networking for your organization or program. In this 3 hour workshop, you will learn:

  1. how to sign up, create and work with a Facebook page
  2. how to sign up, create and work with a Twitter page
  3. social media and social networking terminology such as “likes,” “followers,” “hash tags” and “tweets”
  4. how to find potential “followers” and engage with “fans”
  5. basic steps to attracting and promoting to an online audience
  6. basic etiquette / rules regarding communicating online to your audience

To help facilitate your learning, please bring or have ready, the following items to the workshop:

  1. A laptop with the ability to connect to our internet network wirelessly via WI-FI
  2. Access to an active e-mail address for signup purposes
  3. An online link to a website or webpage of your choice (e.g.,
  4. A digital file of an image (preferably square shaped – jpg/gif) or logo. This image will be used as your profile picture for Facebook and twitter
  5. Some text that you’d like to send out to your followers. This must be 140 characters or less.
  6. Some great ideas for how you envision engaging your audience!

About the Trainer:

Adam Cruz is a social media and social networking consultant for many creative professionals including small business owners, artists, and entrepreneurs. Adam has also facilitated various DJ and music workshops to school age children during New Jersey Performing Arts Center’s (NJPAC) annual “Young Writers’ Workshop,” a specialized residency program for up to five after-school agencies that teaches students the importance of literacy through writing and creative expressions.

NJSACC: The Statewide Network for New Jersey’s Afterschool programs is hiring trainers for a variety of topics to work throughout New Jersey as consultants providing Professional Development for afterschool program staff as needed.

To become an NJSACC Trainer you must complete this online application form and be accepted to attend the Train the Trainer Institute. The Train the Trainer Institute is a focus on the skills required to be a quality trainer and the context of NJSACC trainings and protocols. Participants will learn NAA Trainer Competencies, tools, techniques, assessment and evaluation as well as have an introduction to the NJ Professional Impact Registry and an opportunity to begin the Registry.

Applicants MUST be able to attend the training on Friday March 8 from 10 AM to 2 PM at the NJSACC office in Westfield, NJ.

What to bring:
• A laptop
• A resume
• Any records/certificates of professional development attended in the last 5 years

To become an NJSACC Trainer applicants must:

  1. Participate in the Train the Trainer from start to finish.
  2. Assist NJSACC staff to manage training events and maintain a trainer profile and training descriptions
  3. Follow all protocol of NJSACC related to delivering high quality training events.
  4. Register with NJ Professional Impact Registry (

Qualifications and Requirements
At least 2 years experience in a leadership role.

Applicants must have relevant experience working or be currently working in the child care, school-age care or afterschool field. This includes work representing any of the following types of programs:
• Community Based Organizations (of all sizes)
• Registered Family Child Care Centers
• School-based Afterschool or School-Age Care Programs
• Park and Recreation Programs
• 4-H Council
• Boys & Girls Club
• Girl’s Inc.

Payment for the Train the Trainer Institute: $25 covers materials and lunch

NASA and PBS offer free professional development in STEM Education and Climate Change

NASA and PBS have partnered up to offer professional development opportunities to middle school and high school teachers. Launching the “Global Climate Change Modules” on their website, they have developed an online STEM Education Resource Center, offering free resources on climate change education. Each module covers various aspects of global warming including the coastal consequences of rising sea levels, the warming arctic and even some STEM career preparation.

This professional development experience was funded by NASA’s Global Climate Change Education initiative and was designed to improve the quality of the nation’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and enhance students’ and teachers’ literacy about global climate and Earth system change from elementary grades to lifelong learners.

Job Posting: Afterschool Site Supervisor for Catholic Charities, Somerset County, NJ

Catholic Charities is currently hiring for the position of “Afterschool Site Supervisor” at the Woodfern School of the Hillsborough School District, Somerset County.

The Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the daily operations and management of an afterschool child care program. This includes, but is not limited to developmentally appropriate and innovative activities, staff development and guidance, and adherence to administrative procedures and Office of Licensing standards for Child Care programming.

Candidates are responsible for ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures, assisting children in developing pro-social behavior, implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and supervising all on site staff to ensure high quality standards. The Site Supervisor conducts monthly supervisory meetings with staff and provides guidance to advance professional development. The job requires a commitment to partnering with schools and the community, ensuring the safety and well-being of children, and superior organizational skills.

Hours of the program are Monday through Friday, 2:30-6:30 p.m. Candidates also receive additional hours for planning and site preparation.
