Promising Practice in Afterschool Programs: Presentation by Neil Naftzger

 

On May 19, 2011, the New Jersey Department of Education sponsored the third annual “Soaring Beyond Expectations: An Afterschool Showcase” in support of quality afterschool and extended learning programs.

This showcase highlighted best practice methods implemented by the New Jersey 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) Programs during the 2010-2011 program year.

Neil Naftzger, senior research associate with American Institute for Research, opened the session with a presentation on promising practices in out-of-school-time programs based on an evaluation of 21st CCLC programs in New Jersey.

The showcase offered nine workshops and was open to any organization interested in providing afterschool, before school or summer programs as a strategy to improve youth knowledge and skills and engage youth in meaningful learning opportunities.
