WNBA’s Liberty Offers Discount Tickets for Summer Programs

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Great seats  are going quickly …call Matt Cohen today to lock in for  summer. It is just around the corner. Do not delay!

In honor of National Summer Learning Day, the WNBA’s New York Liberty is opening their house in Newark’s Prudential Center to welcome youth from New Jersey’s summer programs and camps on July 13th at 12:00pm. The day is in partnership with NJSACC: The Network for New Jersey’s Afterschool Communities, The Afterschool Alliance, and the National Summer Learning Association. Lower level seats are available for just $10.00. The Liberty feature three Rutgers graduates, and youth attending the program will have the opportunity, on a first come first serve basis, to participate in unique on-court experiences.

“Getting to know athletes and seeing how much they practice, no matter what the season, to produce results sends an important message for youth,” said Matthew Boulay, interim CEO of the National Summer Learning Association. “Summer learning is an important type of practice for every child to avoid losing the gains they’ve made during the school year.”

“Summer learning programs are critical to keep students safe and engaged in learning,” said Afterschool Alliance Executive Director Jodi Grant. “Inequities in summer learning are a major contributor to the achievement gap between high- and low-income students.” The goal of partnership is to promote and celebrate summer learning and provide a fun, memorable day for the youth. “I think everyone’s going to be excited to meet the Rutgers grads and the other strong female role models that make up the Liberty,” said Diane Genco, Executive Director of NJSACC. “We’re so pleased to provide this opportunity to New Jersey’s youth.” The NY Liberty will provide an On-line Educational Workbook and Thunder Stix for your whole group.
