Applications Open for new NJSACC Afterschool Ambassadors

The NJSACC Afterschool Ambassadors is a select group of leaders in New Jersey’s Afterschool communities who Volunteer to serve as representatives of NJSACC. Afterschool Ambassadors assist NJSACC to connect afterschool professionals, via a Countywide Network. Afterschool Ambassadors are located in each of New Jerseys 21 Counties and will further NJSACC’s mission to develop public awareness of Afterschool issues, build a strong network for afterschool program professionals in NJ, and to establish professional development opportunities in every New Jersey County.

Afterschool Ambassadors are located in each of New Jerseys 21 Counties. Being a NJSACC Afterschool Ambassador is a commitment from February 2011-October 2012

A successful NJSACC Afterschool Ambassador should be:

* Familiar with afterschool programs in the local community
* Committed to Networking
* Committed to Advocacy for Afterschool programs
* Involved and informed in current trends in out of school time
* Computer and Web knowledgeable

NJSACC Afterschool Ambassadors responsibilities include:

* Attendance in Ambassadors training and participation in Webinars, phone conference and web forums
* Fostering a County wide group of Afterschool Professionals and Advocates
* Helping NJSACC identify all Afterschool programs in the County & documenting information collected
* Holding trainings in local community with Administration done by NJSACC
* Meeting with local and county officials to build support for afterschool
* Help organize special events such as Celebrate Afterschool Week and Lights On Afterschool

NJSACC Afterschool Ambassadors will receive the following for their volunteer service and commitment:

* Free Full Membership to NJSACC and Full Membership to the NAA (National Afterschool Association)
* Partnership listing on www.njsacc.org
* An Afterschool Ambassadors Badge
* Two Enhanced trainings specific and prescriptive based on the needs of the Ambassadors
* Attend Ambassador organized trainings for free
* First Hand information on current trends in Afterschool
* Resume builder for state and national leadership in the field of Afterschool

To be considered for the NJSACC Afterschool Ambassadors Program, you must meet the following requirements:

* Completed Application
* A minimum of 5 years of Professional Experience in the Afterschool Field
* 2 emails of reference
Once applications have been reviewed and interviews are completed, NJSACC Afterschool Ambassador positions will be offered to qualified candidates. All applicants will receive an emailed notice of the decisions.

If you are offered a NJSACC Afterschool Ambassador position and accept, you must be available for all mandatory events.

Train the trainer: March 18, 2011

2 Bullying Prevention Workshops

NJSACC is offering 2 workshops on Bullying Prevention

Evesham, Camden County  and Somerset, Somerst County (See registration link below)

This workshop, featuring the documentary Let’s Get Real, will give you information and insight into how to open up a dialogue with young people on name-calling and bullying. The film features middle-schoolers talking honestly about the bullying that goes on in their schools and draws a connection between bullying and other forms of prejudice.

NJSACC is offering one month of Fridays on Professional Development for Afterschool Practitioners.  Registration is limited.

Grant Writing: 2 day Symposium

If you’re looking for additional funding but have limited time or experience with writing grant proposals, then this workshop is for you.  In this two day course you’ll learn common grant components and tips for success from a seasoned grant writer/reviewer.

You will be given guidance on searching for funding opportunities and will begin writing your own proposal with peer review and instructor feedback. Both novice and experienced grant writers will benefit from the collaborative, supportive, and insightful instructional format.

Also included, tips to develop skills for building partnerships, resolving community needs, and developing community support.

You’ll leave with the confidence that you CAN write a grant!

Recommendation: Bring your own laptop for a more personalized experience.

Workshop, Opening Doors to Inclusive Programs

Opening Doors to Inclusive Programs

Description: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, 1990) requires that out-of-school time programs are Accessible to children with and without disabilities. Making your program accessible to all requires creative and responsive accommodations. This full day session features skill-building workshops that start with introducing the

principles of inclusion, followed by how to develop respectful accommodations for children with diverse needs. The session continues with supporting behavior and strategies for collaborating with parents and school personnel. KIT’s Opening Doors to Inclusive Programs Series helps ensure simple and appropriate supports are in place for children and offers tools for the providers who work with them.

Participants will gain specific examples of accommodations for children with various types of disabilities and learn how to prevent negative behaviors before they occur. This workshop addresses how to create inclusive, supportive environments and techniques to communicate successfully with parents. Participants will also join in a facilitated discussion to explore issues related to inclusion in their unique settings

Fee: $50 Includes materials and lunch.

Youth & Children’s Program Manager, Full Time

The Ramsey Adult School has an opening for a full time Youth & Children’s Program Manager. This position reports directly to the Director of the Adult School and is located in the Ramsey School District, Ramsey, NJ.

Organization Description

The Ramsey Adult School (RAS) is a non-profit, self-sustained organization which operates under the Ramsey Board of Education.

RAS is made up of three main sections:  Adult Continuing Education, Youth and Children’s Programs (including summer camps, Wrap Around Kindergarten and Extended Day – a before/aftercare program) and facilities management for the district.

Position’s Duties and Responsibilities:

Overall responsibility for all areas of Youth and Children’s Programs (YCP) currently defined as: Extended Day (before/aftercare program), Children’s Summer Camps (consisting of Summer Sensations, Summer Vibrations, Summer Explorations), and various after school enrichment activities.

Personnel responsibilities: Supervise two direct reports – Administrative Coordinator and Site Coordinator. Responsible for overseeing the hiring and supervising of all YCP staff including but not limited to site staff, instructors, office assistants, and summer nurses as needed.

Oversee website development, data entry and maintenance.

Supervise registration process.

Production and distribution of marketing material, including brochures and target emails.

Works closely with RAS Director for program maintenance and development.

Position Requirements:

The candidate must be proficient in MS Office 2007, specifically Word and Excel; Adobe or Photoshop experience a plus. Experience in the administrative or childcare field mandatory. The individual must be detail oriented, organized, have initiative and be able to multi task in a fast paced environment. Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor, strong communication skills and the ability to create a positive team environment are a must.

Hours:

Monday – Friday, 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m., 12 month position

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience and degree

Vacation and holiday pay as per district calendar

Science in Afterschool Workshop: 5 spaces left!

Infusing Science in Afterschool Programs through an Inquiry-Based “Water” Curriculum

This workshop will provide afterschool staff with a free science curriculum funded by the New Jersey Department of Education. The curriculum is designed to enrich student learning through inquiry-based, interactive science experiences using every day materials. Participants will receive an overview of the 21 lessons and have the opportunity to experience activities included in the program. This fun and engaging “water” curriculum is easy to implement and reinforces NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards in science, literacy, and math. Join us for an introduction on how you can bring science into afterschool. All participants will receive a copy of the curriculum.
