Aligning the Learning Day: Collaboration Strategies for Principals and Afterschool Program Directors

This training is open to all schools and afterschool programs statewide and will focus on providing strategies for effective partnerships between after-school programs and school principals; thereby linking the school-day to the afterschool program and increasing student achievement.

Hear from Paul G. Young, Ph. D., President & CEO of the National AfterSchool Association (NAA see www.naaweb.org and former Executive Director of West Afterschool Program in Lancaster, Ohio.
Paul has extensive experience as a school administrator and previously held positions as an elementary school principal and President of the NAESP (National Elementary and Principals Association ( www.naesp.org )Board of Directors.

Come and join principals across the state to develop a plan of action utilizing NAESPís Leading After-School Learning Communities: Standards for What Principals Should Know and Be Able To Do. This book highlights core characteristics of quality after-school programs:

* Strong Vision, Management and Collaboration

* Sufficient and Quality Staff

* Attention to Health, Safety and Nutrition Issues

* Effective Family and Community Partnerships

* Enriching Learning Opportunities that Complement the School Day

* Links between school-day and after-school staff

* Evaluation of program progress and effectiveness

Participants are requested to attend as a team of 2 or more.

Team should consist of:

* a school building principal

* at least one agency representative, such as an afterschool director/coordinator, board member, parent liaison, community leader

When: Monday, July 12, 2010

Registration and continental breakfast: 9:00 am

Workshop: 9:30 am to 2:00 pm
