Draft Standards For National Accreditation

NJSACC is asking you, folks in the field, to take a moment and review the standards for afterschool.

The National AfterSchool Association is no longer handling the Afterschool Accreditation, COA will be the new organization.
The process is being redesigned- we need your input.
Why become Accredited? If your program accepts NJ CARES FOR KIDS and becomes accredited, then your organization ‘s rate will be 5% more than the standard rate. For some afterschool programs in NJ that extra money can make a big difference.
Please read below.

FROM COA************************************************************

Dear Colleague,

COA is pleased to announce that the draft standards for after school programs are now available for your review and comment. We realize the value of your time and thank you in advance for your participation.

Our goal has been to develop accreditation standards that programs of every size and designation can use to support their continuous quality improvement and long-term sustainability. Feedback collected during the field comment period will help us to strengthen the standards and ensure that they are truly reflective of effective and appropriate practice. We encourage you to make your comments, concerns, and suggestions as detailed as possible, and to include the standard number (e.g., ASP-PS 7.01, ASP-HR 2.02) when possible.

COA’s standards are organized according to a three level structure. At the highest level, a purpose standard provides the overall aim of the practices in the section of standards. At a middle level, each section is comprised of several sub-sections that are headed by core concept standards. Core concept standards describe program components that support the purpose standard. Lastly, at a third level, standards that contain detailed practices contribute to the core concept, and to meeting the purpose. These are practice standards.

The standards and accompanying questionnaire will be available through the end of the day on Tuesday, August 5th, at which point we will begin incorporating your feedback into the final drafts of the standards.
